About the Gallery

Welcome to my website. My business philosophy is simple: to handle museum quality prints at reasonable prices. I have over 24 years experience in print authentication, appraisal and sales, having worked as Director of Prints for William Doyle Galleries in New York, Director of Works on Paper for Childs Gallery, Boston, and as a member of the International Fine Print Dealers Association, www.ifpda.com. In addition to this website, I exhibit at major print and art fairs throughout the country, including New York, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Minneapolis, Boston, Birmingham and Cleveland, and I publish periodic catalogues of my inventory .

The inventory selections reflect my own areas of interest. I feature American and European prints from 1850-1950, with a strong concentration of 20th Century American. My personal favorite area of collecting is New York artists of the 20's and 30's, and you will find them well represented. During this period the Art Students League in New York became a center of creativity for the American printmaking movement. Out of this environment came artists such as George Bellows, John Sloan, Armin Landeck, Martin Lewis, Peggy Bacon, Mabel Dwight, and Yasuo Kuniyoshi. These artists influenced generations of printmakers to come.

I strive to keep my clients happy and to this end all my prints are guaranteed to be authentic, and all works of art are returnable for a full refund within 30 day of invoice. I am happy to work with you, whether you are looking for additional information on a print or artist, want to liquidate artwork, or are searching for a specific piece. Enjoy browsing through the website, and please remember to bookmark it for future reference.

Tips on Collecting:

Tips on Collecting:

Over the years I have been approached by many beginning collectors asking advice on how to buy prints. Collecting is a very personal matter. Collectors' tastes and goals for their collections vary greatly, and it is impossible to define a list of guidelines to fit each collector's needs. However I do feel strongly that all print collectors can agree on the following:

First and foremost, only buy what you like. The potential value of the piece is insignificant if you don't enjoy living with it on your wall.
Ask plenty of questions. A qualified print dealer should be able to provide you with at least basic information on the artist, medium, and condition of the print, and in most cases, date, edition size, and any pertinent references. The more informed you are regarding the print, the more likely you will be pleased with your purchase.
Print collecting is a lifelong habit. Take your time to look at large selections of prints. In most cases beginning collectors repeatedly find themselves interested in the same style of prints, which is generally a good style to use as the core of their collection.
Only buy from reputable dealers who guarantee the authenticity of the works they offer. If you don't know the reputation of your dealer, request trade references.

Good luck with your collecting, and please feel free to contact me with additional questions at abigailfurey@aol.com
